Dates: July 13 - July 24 (Monday - Friday)
Time: 10am-11am
Grades: 3-5
A collaboration between Promesa Academy and Youth Code Jam as we work to bring purposeful, authentic, and relevant learning experiences to the children of our city.
Recent events have caused a lot of tension between individuals and groups in our community. It’s important to be able to recognize and celebrate our differences and what makes us who we are (our beliefs, our physical characteristics, our values, our stories), while still realizing that we each have so much to contribute to our community. In this project, students will take a deeper look at characters in video games, computer games, and emojis, and analyze the diversity of the media they consume. After learning about why representation matters, and the importance of inclusion, students will create a project based on what they learned, such as an inclusive video game, a character or emoji that looks like them or even writing a letter to a company about why inclusive representation in its product matters to the student.
